In this episode, we’ll explore the Demographic Transition Model and how birth and death rates change as a country develops. We’ll discuss Stage 1, where pre-industrial societies experience high birth and death rates. We’ll examine Stage 2, marked by declining death rates due to improved healthcare and sanitation, while birth rates remain high. We’ll then look at Stage 3, where industrialisation leads to falling birth rates. Finally, we’ll consider Stages 4 and 5, where developed countries have low birth and death rates, and in some cases, a declining population.
