What’s up with the name “Disciple Dojo”?? Great question! One of my lifelong passions has been studying the martial arts. And the place where you study and train in martial arts is a Dojo. Christian Discipleship is similar to martial arts training (if you don’t believe me, just ask Paul–he says so himself in his letter to Christians in ancient Corinth [1Cor. 9:26-27]!). We have a Sensei (teacher): Jesus. We have a katana (sword): Scripture. Thus Disciple Dojo is intended as a virtual Dojo–wh ...

Paul wrote this corrective letter to the church in Galatia because the believers were being fooled by legalistic Jews in their understanding of grace; they were thinking they could add to God's grace and gain His acceptance by keeping God’s ceremonial laws that He had given to Jews. Paul was teaching them and us as well that we are justified by faith alone and not by anything we can do.

Paul wrote his first letter to Timothy so he would know, "...how one ought to behave in the household of God, the church of the living God..." (3:14,15). In doing so he laid down the apostolic foundation for doctrine and practice for the church at Ephesus and the Scriptural model for the true church for all time. The contemporary church, therefore, has no excuse for not doing God's work God's way. This series of messages is a verse-by-verse exposition of the book of Haggai by Jeff Miller. Th ...

Contentment is a mystery. Seriously. When Paul says in his letter to the Philippians that he has “learned the secret of being content in any and every situation,” the Greek word for “learning the secret” is “memuēmai,” which is commonly used to describe mystery. Learning the secret is being initiated into a divine mystery that is revealed through experience. Does that make you feel like you are in the pages of an epic adventure? You are. Join us on an eight-week journey where we will: - div ...

The Bible is full of blessings to the people of God. Paul begins every single letter he wrote with a blessing. A blessing is speaking the good things of God into the lives of others. Paul is in prison, unable to do the very thing he was called to—yet his thoughts are soaked in joy. Writing to the church in Philippi, he shows that joy begins not in circumstances but in the mind—with gratitude—deepening in the heart and maturing through prayer as we see that the God who began a good work will carry it through. From Phil. 1:1-11.…
