Again today, all over the media and running press, is Joasia Zakrzewski .
Joasia Zakrzewski is a serious competitive athlete who's competed for Great Britain and Scotland many times and excelled in ultra distances from 50km to 48 hours, recently breaking the world record for 48 hours.
She's also a doctor and has coached or managed the Great Britain team when I've been part of it.
In April, during a 50-mile race, she made a mistake that she instantly regretted. She dropped out injured from a race, got into a car and later was persuaded to continue, which is obviously a form of clear cheating. Despite her competitive nature, this is in no way a representation of her real character or the person she has been to me.
In these situations, the media is brutal, and the running media have also jumped on board—it's a very "clickbaitable" story. The irony is for me that every second sporting article for the last few years has been about raising awareness to mental health, yet we are so quick to throw someone under a bus with no obvious route to redemption.
So who is Jo? Who is she to me and what kind of person is she really?
