I just got off a class with the devotees in Mayāpur. We are taking the Bhakti-vedānta, and we have been reading this morning from the section of the Bhāgavatam: Kṛṣṇa chastises Kāliya. In our discussion, we had been talking about the ways in which Kāliya had received Kṛṣṇa's mercy because he danced on his hoods, but he simultaneously pounded him with his lotus feet. Because of that, he vomited out all the poison that he had, that was because of his unfortunate mentality, which he had become envious of. But somehow or other, his wives had offered prayers when they saw that Kāliya's mood had changed, and he had become a surrendered devotee. We were discussing about this point at which one decides to surrender to Kṛṣṇa. You don't have to wait till the poison is all pounded out of you; you can voluntarily surrender. And having the association of his wives, Jīva Gosvāmī said, who were pure devotees, that's what gave him an opportunity. His wives had thought that he must have done something previously to give him this opportunity to get Kṛṣṇa's mercy of dancing on his heads with His lotus feet.
