PREVIEW — Anika Burgess — The Invention of the Daguerreotype and Early Photography. Burgess examines the invention of the daguerreotype, the genesis of practical photography, by Louis Daguerre. Daguerre, who previously created innovative dioramas, partnered strategically with Niépce to develop the technology. Presented to the public by François Arago in 1839, the remarkably realistic daguerreotype images astonished contemporary observers. Daguerre deliberately delayed the final public revelation to negotiate favorable pension terms and secure the exclusive rights to the invention through the French government.
