Summary: I spent most of this week absolutely buzzing about Google because they've been releasing some genuinely impressive stuf, and I'm not someone who says that lightly. Nano Banana Pro dropped this week with proper text rendering in images, which sounds trivial until you realise you can now generate entire infographics, comics, and educational graphics that actually work. I've been using it to turn my newsletter into cartoons and building automation in Cursor to do this automatically. Beyond image generation, Google announced Gemini 2.0 Flash, which is their first genuinely agentic model that can control computers and browse the web autonomously. It's faster than GPT 4, costs less, and I'm starting to think Google might actually have a shot at winning this race.

The catch, and it's a massive one, is that Google still needs to figure out how to monetise all this without destroying their existing advertising empire. They're sitting on the best vertical integration in AI—owning everything from TPUs to Chrome to Android—but they're going to have to cannibalise their own cash cow eventually. Nobody wants to be the first company to shove ads into AI results, but someone's going to blink, and when they do, it'll change everything. We also got GPT 5.1 Codex Max and rumblings of Opus 4.5 from Anthropic, but honestly, this was Google's week through and through.
