Hembadoon is a singer, songwriter, radio host, and all-around creative powerhouse who is performing at the much-anticipated Radio ARA Crowdfunding Concert: A Lux Mini Fest, a special fundraising event featuring Luxembourg-based talent. Hembadoon joined the studio not only to perform live but also to share her inspiring story. Originally from Nigeria, Hembadoon began her music career in 2002 and has worn many hats in the industry since. Now based in Luxembourg, she balances her roles as front woman of her band and host of the Africulture Mix show on Radio ARA. She emphasises how the local radio and music scene have provided her with a platform and a sense of community unlike any other. This is a contrast to the highly competitive media and music environment she experienced in Nigeria. She delves into the formation of her current band that came about through a serendipitous journey of weekend jam sessions that turned into collaborations. Hembadoon recalls meeting musicians organically through gigs and studio visits, leading to a synergy that quickly evolved into a creative force. Their bond grew stronger through rehearsals and eventually culminated in a well-received debut concert that cemented their commitment to making music together. Throughout the conversation, Hembadoon celebrates the unique blend of cultural influences that shape her sound, staying true to her African roots while exploring new sonic landscapes with her multicultural band. She highlights how this creative process has expanded her songwriting, allowing her to draw from deeply personal experiences and transform them into resonant stories and songs. Live in the studio, Hembadoon performs two powerful tracks: “Lady,” an anthem of self-actualization and feminine identity, and “Kule Kule Hemba Ayem,” a soulful song in her native dialect about perseverance and staying grounded. Both performances showcase her dynamic vocal presence and the rich, textured sound of her ensemble. You can see Hembadoon live and help keep Radio ARA going at the Radio ARA Crowdfunding Concert: A Lux Mini Fest.
