It was China Eastern Airlines Flight five eighty-three, cruising over the Pacific, on its way from Shanghai to Los Angeles. The pilot declared an emergency and directed the plane to an Air Force base in Alaska. The pilot made some quick moves to stabilize the aircraft, but the injuries happened because folks weren't buckled up. Luckily, the crew was trained, and the airliner itself was fine, except for the messed-up cabin. The aftermath of this incident was costly, requiring about one and a half million dollars to repair the damage.
