Dr. Rachel Schwaller (University of Kansas) brings to us a presentation called “(Un)scripted (Un)settlement: Mapping the Language of Homeless Encampment in Lawrence, Kansas.” Schwaller blends archival work, ethnography, and GIS in a mapping of settlement and land ownership. She compellingly demonstrates that two-centuries plus of this discourse in Kansas suggests that settlement is a classification of human constitution and geographic place.
