Sunday, June 1, 2025 – As we continue our series on the 16 Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, we are focusing on Tenant #7: The Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Today, we will learn that this belief, along with the Initial Evidence of Speaking in Tongues, differentiates a Protestant church from a Protestant Pentecostal church. Most, if not all, Protestant churches agree on the first six Fundamental Truths we’ve already discussed; it’s when we discuss the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that the differences arise. It’s crucial to realize that for a person to acknowledge their sins and receive forgiveness, the Holy Spirit is the active agent who convicts and leads them to Jesus for forgiveness. At that moment, the Holy Spirit is welcomed into that person's life and takes residence within them. That’s the saving power of the Holy Spirit, but it’s not the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. It’s the same Holy Spirit with a different purpose and result. The Baptism is a distinct and subsequent act following salvation. That’s what we’re going to learn today.
