A member of Clare's Social Development Strategic Policy Committee has warned that land identified by the Department of Housing won't come close to meeting the demand for affordable housing. Figures released to Bodyke Fine Gael TD Joe Cooney in response to a parlimentary question, show seven sites have been identified by the department for the delivery of 306 units. This comprises of a potential 206 social homes, while the remaining 100 earmarked for affordable housing, with 2,792 households recorded on Clare's latest social housing list. Shannon Fine Gael Councillor, Tony Mulcahy, says the demand for affordable housing has increased significantly and is only set to keep rising.
