Moby-Dick, published in 1851 by Herman Melville, is a landmark American novel that follows the obsessive quest of Captain Ahab, a whaling ship commander, to seek revenge on Moby Dick, a formidable white sperm whale that previously bit off his leg. Narrated by Ishmael, a sailor who joins the crew of Ahab’s ship, the Pequod, the story explores the whaling industry of the 19th century, delving into themes of obsession, fate, human struggle against nature, and the search for meaning in a vast and indifferent universe.
