Before Invincible ever soared and The Walking Dead ever lurched onto the scene, there was one series that lit the spark, a wild, fearless, creator-owned book that proved anything was possible in comics. It just so happens to be my all-time favorite. Robert Kirkman and I bonded over this book as teenage superfans, and it shaped the way both of us saw the future of comics. In this episode of Coolest Geek Alive, I’m celebrating the legendary Erik Larsen and the series that inspired me, inspired Kirkman, and continues to burn as one of the most important creator-owned runs in history. This is more than nostalgia; it’s a reminder of the raw energy and independence that make comics the greatest storytelling medium on Earth.
