The Somerton Man case is Australia’s most famous cold case. In 1948, a man was found dead on Somerton Beach in Adelaide, with no ID and all labels removed from his clothes. A hidden note reading “Tamam Shud” (meaning “ended” in Persian) was found in his pocket, linking to a rare book with a mysterious code. Despite decades of speculation involving spies, poison, and secret affairs, his identity remained unknown until 2022, when DNA analysis identified him as Carl Webb, a Melbourne engineer. The cause of his death, however, remains unsolved.
