We continue the CEA Strawberry Series with Josh Tamminga, Partner and Grower at TamBerry Farms in Ontario. Josh shares a candid grower's perspective, reflecting on four seasons of greenhouse and tunnel strawberry production. He explains why early yield promises were unrealistic, how plant quality remains the industry's biggest hurdle, and why growers must be more open in sharing lessons learned. We discuss his efforts in on-site propagation to improve consistency, the risks of disease and shelf-life breakdown, and the challenges of forecasting in such a volatile crop. Despite setbacks, Josh points to opportunities in trialing new varieties, short-day programs, and building a culture of collaboration that prevents farms from repeating costly mistakes. This is a grounded and honest look at what it takes to grow strawberries under glass and plastic today, and what must change for the industry to succeed tomorrow.
