If you were to get up at 4am every morning, never had a day off and dedicated your life to one cause or goal would you be fully effective?

David Charlton goes on to discuss how working hard means different things to different people. How overworking can equal poor decision making. He goes on to share the importance of self-care and being proactive about taking breaks to help people maintain perspective.

Key Learning Points:

  • Commitment is a big factor in being mentally tough though has its downsides.

  • Motivational quotes, short videos and reels created by influencers can be very unhelpful and can be taken out of context by some people lessening their chances of reaching their goals.

  • As a sport psychologist you can be equally effective supporting athletes and coaches working in their sporting environment as you can away from it.

  • If you’d like to take David up on the offer of hiking a hill in the Lake District and discussing how you can improve your chances of success feel free to email [email protected]
