How about some hard labor, maybe in a coal mine, how about some hard labor, a union, and a militia laying waste to a union strike. Well, your in the right place, today we go back to the early 1900's to a mining town in Colorado, called Ludlow...the Ludlow Massacre, a terrible tragedy on all fronts.
Mining for coal is hard enough, even today with all the technological advances we have, imagine in the early 1900s, where profitability was in the forefront, well it probably still is. Working for the coalmine was not really a profitable venture. Unless of course you owned the mine...workers only got paid by the ton...you aren't moving coal, you are not getting paid. Gee what a great time to be alive...
So, wander out into the woods somewhere, grab a pick axe, find a wall of rocks, and see what it must have felt like, now enclose yourself in complete darkness...dangerous gasses, and the smell of sweat, urine and feces, a mile below ground...to put food on the table for your family. Now imagine, the company you work for making huge profit margins...a union forms, strike begins...that's where our story takes off, murder, fire, and treachery...president Woodrow Wilson, drop a Rockefeller in there, National Guard, and a militia, and you have a nasty death soup a boiling...oh yeah, and a vehicle thingy with a Gatlin gun in the back...oh boy!
Hope you enjoy todays show!
