The Shadows of Avalon caused a lot of excitement when it was first announced.

Not only did it mark the return of Paul Cornell to writing Doctor Who, after his triumphant New and Missing Adventures work, but it brought back the Brigadier, and introduced a new incarnation of Romana.

It also had an astonishing daring moment that really did seem audacious at the time.

We're joined by editor Steve Cole, as Kenny and Matt discuss the novel and its impact, with archival quotes from Paul Cornell.
