The church in Ephesus had a zeal for truth that Christ commended. But their zeal got the better of them and they found themselves receiving a severe warning from the Lord. In their zeal to defend the truth, they had divorced themselves from love. Zeal divorced from love is a destructive force. The call of Christ was for them to remember their first love, repent and do the first works.
