Goddess Durga is an exceptionally important and popular deity in Hinduism. She is worshipped as the creator, preserver, and destroyer of the universe. The word 'Durga' means 'impenetrable' or 'difficult to overcome', and the name 'Durga' signifies the one who frees from all obstacles and sorrows. Essentially, Goddess Durga is the embodiment of Mahashakti, the supreme power that encompasses all energies of the cosmos. Goddess Durga is depicted with ten arms, each holding various weapons. These weapons signify her diverse powers and attributes. Her mount is a lion, symbolizing valor and courage.
