Hello friends and welcome to this podcast. In this podcast, we will talk about cardiovascular disease. Do you know cardiovascular disease are the leading cause of death globally? Around 17.9, 179 lakhs people die every year because of CBD that is cardiovascular disease.
The most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, let's see what are those most important risk factor. The number one risk factor for cardiovascular disease that is diet. See food rich in salt, fat and sugar.
These type of food increases the risk of atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is nothing, it is the hardening of arteries. The arteries which carries blood, their wall gets hardened due to such type of food.
So due to which cholesterol or plaque or you can say clot, clot build up in the walls of artery and this can cause high blood pressure. So in common way you can understand that the arteries which are looks like pipes, they got some no breaker types of structure inside in the format of plaque or clot which causes atherosclerosis hardening of artery and this causes cardiovascular disease. The next and most important risk factor for cardiovascular disease that is smoking.
See nicotine and carbon monoxide, this increases the heart rate, lower the oxygen level in the heart. Now what happens? The muscles of heart, they cause thrombosis. Thrombosis again is say like clot or plaque you can say due to rupturing of the artery.
So this again leads to CVD. Next most important risk factor is diabetes. See high blood glucose and high blood pressure, these both can lead to damage of tunica intima.
Tunica intima is the name of the wall of artery and this can cause again atherosclerosis which again can cause clot and this leads to CVD. The next risk factor for CVD that is lifestyle. See everyday life from work stress to lack of exercise, then tension, these things can increase the risk of heart disease.
So lifestyle is the major cause of heart disease. Next and final you can say not final but next is family history or you can say genetics. People who have direct family history of having heart disease are at higher risk developing cardiovascular disease.
If someone in your family will be having heart disease or diabetes then you are more prone to having such type of disease. Again the next is aging. As we age, our cardiovascular system becomes weaker.
So the age increases, cardiovascular system gets weaker and the chances of cardiovascular disease increases. Now the final is gender. So men are more prone to have, men are around 3 to 5 times more prone to have such diseases compared to women.
These are the some very common and very important risk factors which we should consider. Now let's see how can we prevent CVD that is cardiovascular disease. So for prevention we can take 5, 6, 7 small steps like get regular health screening.
So number one comes get regular health screening to your cholesterol or your blood sugar level. After a regular interval of around 6 months we should check our sugar and cholesterol level. Next comes is manage stress.
