EPISODE DISCRIPTION

The transcription summary captures a dynamic and uplifting church service led by First Assembly’s speaker, who passionately encourages congregants to worship and seek God’s presence. The service opens with an invitation to worship the “God of all hope” and emphasizes the importance of surrendering to the Lord. A key theme emerges around the concept of “Super Sunday,” which the speaker humorously contrasts with the Super Bowl, asserting that true spiritual significance lies not in the game but in gathering for worship, studying God’s Word, and embracing the miraculous potential of faith.

Throughout the service, the speaker emphasizes the need for a “miracle mindset” and highlights various scriptural promises from the Bible, particularly drawing from Isaiah 40:31 and Psalm 23. The message revolves around three main areas where God meets believers’ needs: directional needs, emotional needs, and spiritual needs. The speaker shares personal anecdotes and biblical stories, including the experiences of King David and his reliance on God during times of fear and confusion, to reinforce the idea that God is a constant source of guidance, comfort, and restoration.

As the service progresses, congregants are invited to engage in prayer and reflection, with a specific call to those seeking healing, breakthroughs, or spiritual renewal. The speaker fervently encourages attendees to approach the altar for prayer, assuring them of God's active presence and willingness to meet their needs. The atmosphere is one of hope, community, and a collective desire for deeper spiritual engagement. As the service concludes, attendees are encouraged to connect with one another, sharing prayer requests and fostering a sense of support and unity within the church community, leaving with a renewed sense of purpose and faith.

Well, good morning, First Assembly. God bless. Good to have all of you here. If I told you lately how much I appreciate all of you, all of you that are watching online, all of you that are here, the many that join us in the mighty 990. Can't tell you what, how much I appreciate you. You know, First Assembly has been one of the leading dynamic churches of Memphis, one of the great, great churches of this city for over 65 years. And we're not going to let up, are we? Let's go forward. Let's even do more for the kingdom of God. What do you say? Come on, give the Lord a great big God bless you.

Now, Super Bowl Sunday. How many, how many Chief fans are here? Let me hear you. How many Chief fans? Oh, we got a handful. How many Eagles are ready to go? Oh, we got more. We got more Philadelphia people here today. All righty. How many of your team did not make it to the Super Bowl? Well, better luck next year. Better luck next year. You know, the Super Bowl is going to be played today. I don't know who's going to win, but the Super Bowl is going to be played and it'll be a great game. It'll be a lot of fun. People will gather and have parties and eat a lot of hot wings and drink a lot of Coke and everything else. But you know, in five, six, seven years from now, the majority of people won't even remember who was in the Super Bowl for 2025. Unless you're an avid football fan, you won't remember the score. You won't remember who played. You won't remember anything much about Super Bowl 2025. But I'll tell you what you will remember on this Sunday is if you open your heart to Jesus Christ and let him work in your life, we're going to be talking about developing a miracle mindset. Super Bowl won't change your life, but if you develop a miracle mindset, I'll guarantee you it'll change your life. Always, always, always. Now, there's three groups of people here this morning. I'm glad every one of you are here. First group of people that are here, you're passionate about Jesus. You're growing in him. You're on fire for him. You look at your life and say, man, Lord, I just can't wait to live this day walking under your guidance. I love you. Second group of people that are here, you're just spiritually a little bit dull. You look back and you look back in your life and you say, you know, I was a stronger Christian some time ago than I am today. I want to say I'm glad you're here and I love you. And then there's a third group of people that are here. You've not yet committed your life to Jesus Christ. Let me tell you something. Jesus Christ is an equal opportunity savior. He'll save anybody. And I'm glad you're here today and I love all of you that have not yet given your life to Christ. Today can be the day that you commit your life to Jesus Christ. You that are kind of lukewarm, today can be the day you can say, come on Lord, light a fire underneath me. Get me back to where I used to be. Get me back to where I used to be. Give me back to where I was. the High Watermark of My Spiritual Experience. And then those of you that are passionate for Him, you're growing by leaps and bounds, say, Lord, take me even higher. Take me even higher from where I am right now. Okay, we're in a series of messages about how to develop a miracle mindset, and today I want to talk with you about this topic, how to develop a miracle mindset for every single area of your life. Now, if I were the devil, what I would do to try to stop people in their spiritual growth, I wouldn't try to convince people that God doesn't exist. I wouldn't try to do that. It's hardwired into us. There is a God. You've got to teach a child not to believe in God. So I wouldn't try to convince somebody, oh, God doesn't exist. But here's the thing. If you're a devil, you've got to convince people that God doesn't exist. what I would do. I would try to convince somebody, you know what? Go to church on Sunday. God does exist. Go to church on Sunday. Believe in God. Just don't overdo it. Go to church on Sunday. Sing. Enjoy your life group. High-five your friends and pray with them. Listen to the pastor's message. Enjoy it all. But keep everything that you do spiritually, can keep it all in the Sunday morning box. Confine it to simply Sunday morning. And then Monday through Saturday, just live and handle life on your own. After all, if I were the devil, I'd convince you, you're smart. You're really, really smart. You've got experience. You don't need God day by day. You've got friends. You know people. You've got influence. Use those things. And the other six days of the week, yeah, put God in that Sunday box. But the other six days of the week, live on your own. Because Sunday morning is enough. If the devil could do that, he would diminish our faith. He would cause us to struggle through life on our own. And he would strip out of our mind the miracle-working power of Almighty God. I don't want that to happen to any one of us. So here's a question for all of us today, me included. Do you have a miracle mindset? Every day? Do you every day view God, Lord, I need you. You are totally sufficient. I am insufficient by myself every single day of the year. Lord, I need you. Or on the other hand, are you battling through life on your own? Today, I want to focus on one of the greatest verses in all the Bible. It's so well-known, 98% of you, maybe 99, maybe 100% of you could quote at least the early part of it, but Paul keeps doing these words all day. It's time to go to bed with your Amen.

Well, let's have a look at this chapter today.— —

in every dimension of my life. Those nine words, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want, they depict and describe the miracle mindset I'm going to talk about today. But let's get the whole psalm in perspective, okay? Read it with me, all right? All together from the very beginning. Ready? Let's read. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still water. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. And yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over. Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And how long?

Forever. Now, let's dive into that famous and familiar psalm today. What areas will God help us with a miracle mindset? What areas? I see three as I think of this psalm and break it down. Three areas. First of all, when you develop a miracle mindset, he will meet your directional needs. Okay? Your directional needs. It says, God leads me in paths of righteousness. God leads me in paths of righteousness. God leads me. God leads me. God leads me. My directional needs. He's my shepherd and he'll lead me. David became a famous king, but before he was king, what was his occupation? Remember what it was? He was a shepherd boy. Hey, you know what? Sheep are not very smart. Matter of fact, they're downright dumb. And let me give you the bad news. God calls me a sheep and he calls you a sheep. I've seen trained dogs, Lassie. I've seen trained bears, Gentle Ben. I've been to the circus. I've seen trained elephants. I've been to SeaWorld and I've seen trained dolphins. I've seen trained horses. Ever seen a trained sheep? Ever gone to the circus and see a trained sheep? They're not bright enough to train. They can't pick it up. Sheep, they get lost. They get confused. They get all mixed up. They need somebody to lead me. And the miracle mindset admits it up front and center. God, I'm one of your sheep. And God, I'm not that smart. And God, I really need you to lead me. And so, Lord, would you lead me in paths of righteousness? Because I don't know which way to go. And the miracle mindset says, God, would you meet my directional needs? Every day I need you. Psalm 25 a perfect example, verses 4 and 5. Look at Psalm 25 verses 4 and 5, written by David, by the way. He knew what he was talking about. He'd been a shepherd. Show me the path, O Lord, point out the road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me. Show me, point out, lead me, teach me. I'm a sheep, Lord, I'm not that bright. I need you, Lord, so show me the path, point out the road, lead me by your truth, teach me what to do. You are the God who saves, I like this part, all day long I put my hope in you. Not Sundays only, not just portions, all day long. Let me tell you the back story of Psalm 25, the back story. The back story takes us to 1 Samuel chapter 19. David is 21 years of age. He's married the king's daughter, says, now he's the king's son-in-law. Saul is green-eyed jealous of David because David is winning battle after battle, and people are singing songs about David. They're not singing songs about the king. And Saul is jealous, and so he says, I'm going to kill David. I'm going to kill my son-in-law. David catches news of it. He takes off running. Lord, which way do I go? Lord, problems all around me. Lord, I see enemies all around me. Everywhere I turn, everywhere I look. God, which way do I go? Did God do a miracle for David? Did He direct him? He sure did, he sure did. Just read in 1 Samuel chapter 19, and you see what God did by way opening doors and closing doors to protect him, how God guided him. David realized he needed God's guidance, he didn't say man, I sure am lucky for how all worked out. No, , , the Lord led me. David realized he needed God's guidance. He didn't say, man, I sure am lucky for radio Lord is my shepherd. He'll lead me in paths of righteousness. This is more than a coincidence. The Lord is doing this for my life. The Lord is protecting me and clearing my path. Now, just David? Just David back then? No, because in Psalm 25, in that same psalm that we just read about how he'll lead, he'll guide, he'll show truth, in that same psalm it says this, no one who trusts in you will ever be disgraced. Say those words, no one. Say it together, no one. Say it again, no one. Say it again louder, no one. One more time, no one. No one, God, who trusts in you will ever be disgraced. I grabbed my Hebrew Bible and I looked up that verse in my Hebrew Bible. That word disgraced is a very interesting word that I grabbed my Hebrew dictionary to confirm it. between That word there means confused because of delay. Nobody who trusts in you will be confused because things are delayed. God says, I'm going to break through that delay. I'm going to burst through that confusion. And I'm going to show you, because I see things that you can't see, and I know things you don't know, God says. Tell you a true story. I read the true story. It happened up in Michigan.

Slow down, slow down. And there was a car behind it, wanted to pass. He said, I watched that car. It would pull out, and then an oncoming car, he'd have to pull back in. Couldn't see around the curb, couldn't see over the hill. Pulled out to pass, couldn't pass, pull back in. Pulled out to pass, he said, I watched it five, six, seven times, and he said, oh, I wish I had a radio. And I wish somehow I could communicate, I could call, I wish I knew a cell number of the person. I could call them and say, hey, I can see ahead. Now, no oncoming car, pull out and pass right now. You see, the pilot could see the road ahead that the driver couldn't see. God can see the road ahead you can't see. God can see the road ahead you can't see. That's why David says, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He sees things in the future that I cannot see, and therefore, Lord, lead me. Just lead me in paths of righteousness. That's the miracle mindset, God will take care of every directional need that we have. Are you in confusing times right now? Lord, should I go this way, should I go that way? Should I just stop? Lord, should I back up? Lord, I don't know what to do. Are you in confusing times right now? Hey, the Lord, let him be your shepherd. Let him be the one who will guide you in paths of righteousness. Soon, I'm gonna call people to come down to the list. the Front and Pray. I want to invite you to come. You may not say, I've never come down front. Don't ever be afraid to come to Jesus. You don't want to come alone? Say to the person next to you, would you walk with me? Would you go down there with me? I'll guarantee you they will. And when you come down, we're going to trust God, the miracle worker, to give us a miracle mindset. And God, I'm in the midst of a quandary right now. I don't know which way to turn, but God, the Bible says that the Lord is my shepherd and you will lead me in paths of righteousness. He's totally sufficient to give you direction in life. Amen, everybody? Another one, a miracle mindset. God will meet your emotional needs, not just directional needs, emotional needs. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I'll fear no evil. You're with me. Man, you talk about emotional needs. Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Now, David didn't write Psalm 23 when he was a younger man. David wrote Psalm 23 in the last quarter of his life. In the last, when he was an older man, and he looked back on his life, and he says, let me tell you about my God. Several times in my life, I was facing death, David said. Multiple times, I was chased. I was accused. I was fearful. There were times I was worried. I was betrayed. I went through grief. I was confused. But all the while, I had a miracle mindset. And I knew that even though I may be walking through the valley of the shadow of death, I don't need to have emotional fear. I've got a miracle mindset. God is with me every moment. Hey, life in Memphis, any worry living in Memphis? Any fear? Any confusion? Any times of grief? Any gangs? Any robberies? Any home break-ins? Anybody carry guns? I was in a meeting. It seems everybody today is packing a pistol. I was in a meeting with five pastor buddies of mine, total of six of us. And we met at one of my friend's church, his church. We met there, had a quick bite to eat together, and prayed a little bit together. Out of the six of us, I was the only one not packing a pistol. All other five were packing pistols. And one guy told us, he said, just Tuesday of last week, he said, I walked out of my church to get in my car, and he said, a guy took a shot at me because I said something in church he didn't like. And you think being a pastor is such a soft, comfy, cushy job. I have gone to restaurants, and I have had people try to knock me off my feet because they didn't like something I had said in church that Sunday morning. I have had people subscribe to Playboy magazines and had a Playboy magazine shows up at First Assembly, and there, Tom Lindbergh's name is on the Playboy magazine. And everybody's wondering, what's he up to? I've had that happen. I've had a man drive up to my home in a truck and got out of the truck, and he wanted to have a fistfight right there in my front lawn because he didn't like something that I'd said in church the Sunday before. And I picked up my telephone call, and I've had an anonymous caller say, we know where your family is. We know what they do. And if you don't back down in the church, we're not going to back down. This issue of abortion, you don't know what may happen to your family. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of threats and fears and worries and anxieties and problems with kids and health issues, and you name it, God is with us. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. I live with a miracle mindset. I live, I, the Lord is my shepherd. I'm just a dumb old sheep. And the Lord, that did not have to be said at that time. Daniel, I love you, buddy. I love you, buddy. Want to try it again? I'm just a dumb old sheep.

The Lord is my shepherd. I've got a miracle mindset. He's going to see me every, through everything that I may face. You take care of your kids. You take care of your kids, so does God. I read an article, it said if you're fearful, if you're worried, if you're depressed, talk to your plant, talk to your pets. Get that little kitten up in your lap and stroke it. Now, I love cats, and we've got plants in our house, and, but I'd rather talk to the savior than talk to a plant. I'd rather talk to a savior than I did my cat, Muffin. I'd rather talk, then, amen, everybody? Amen. The valley of the shadow of death. The valley of the shadow of death, amen. How many of you, you've had a brush with that? Well now that's six hundred percent dissolved. death sometime in your life? Let me see your hand. You've had a brush with death? Yep, quite a few. I did exactly four years ago, right about now. I got the COVID shot on a Tuesday. Twenty hours later on Wednesday, I had a massive heart attack. Sandy rushed me down Germantown Parkway toward Germantown Methodist Hospital. I remember as she drove me, we were going by the Perkins, I told her, I said, Sandy, I'm dying. I don't think I'm going to make it. We got to the hospital. I was so weak, I couldn't walk. I was so weak, I couldn't even stand. Put me in a wheelchair, took me up to the cath lab. I had one artery in my heart, the major artery, 100% blocked. I experienced two miracles that day. Number one, they put in one, they put in one, stent. And they did that on a Wednesday. I stayed one night in the hospital. Now when I went into the hospital, I couldn't take a step. I could not stand on my own strength. I was in the hospital one night, Amy brought me home on Thursday afternoon. I got home. I walked one mile around my neighborhood. I felt great. Next day Friday, I walked two miles around my neighborhood. I felt great. Saturday, I wanted to test it out. I like to golf and I like to walk. I threw my golf ball Golf Bag Over My Shoulder, and I took a three-mile walk around my neighborhood, and I felt great. God did the coolest thing. He healed me in one day, and I was back to full normalcy. Hallelujah.

Back 100%. Another miracle He did. When I was there in the hospital, the doctor kept saying to me, stick with us, Mr. Lindbergh. Stick with us. Don't leave us. Don't leave us. As I was there in the hospital, in the operating room as they were putting in the stint, I had the peace of God that passes all understanding. I didn't know if I was going to live. I didn't know if I was going to die. On the way there, I was convinced, this is it. I'm not going to make it. I'm going to die. As I was on that operating table, I had peace, peace, wonderful peace coming down from the Father above. It swept over my mind. It swept over my soul. And I said, Lord, if this is it, I'm ready. Now, I didn't walk through the valley of the shadow of death. Said the Lord, Terry, one day I will. But I have walked into the valley of the shadow of death. And let me tell you, He was with me. I have walked into the valley of the shadow of death, and many of you have. And He will be with you as well. And if you have to walk through the valley of the shadow of death. I'm ready. I'm ready. He will be there as well. Don't let the devil play mind games with you. Don't be wound up, worked up, and bound up. I've told you this before. Tell it to yourself every so often. Everything over my head is under His feet. Everything over my head is under His feet. Everything that's over my head is under His feet, because the Lord is my shepherd. And therefore, I shall not want. That's a miracle mindset. And soon we're going to pray. You know what? You know what Jesus said in Matthew chapter 10? Jesus said, you just come to me, all you that are labored, stressed out, you're burdened by life, things are weighing you down. Just come to me. You can come at the end of our service this morning. Just come. And see if I won't give you rest. See if I won't give you the strength that you need. What will happen is God will meet you here, a friend will come with you, and we're going to be singing songs, we're going to be worshiping the Lord, and the presence of the Lord is going to be right here. And if you come this way before you come this way. If you go that way, you'll be a different person. The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. That is a miracle mindset. Clear direction, and also emotional needs. One more. Not only does He meet directional needs and emotional needs, He also meets spiritual needs. Spiritual needs. He restores my soul.

You know, things in life break. Something happens to your car, take you to the mechanic.

I have trouble with my teeth, I go see my dentist, Dr. Stan Waddell. Something happens with my sink, my bathtub, I call a plumber. Things break, I call the right person to come and fix it. What do you do with a broken soul? The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He restores, He repairs, He puts my soul back together. Who else can do that? Who else can repair your soul? I'm not talking about a mechanical issue, I'm not talking about a dental issue, I'm not talking about a plumbing issue, I'm not talking about a financial issue, I'm talking about a spiritual, a soul issue, a spirit issue. And nobody can solve that other than the Lord God Almighty. He restores my soul. Amen, everyone? He restores. There's a man in the Old Testament. His name is Isaiah. Boy, he went through some rough times. He lived in Jerusalem. Enemies had surrounded the city. Nobody in, nobody out. Place was under total lockdown. Shortages, food shortages, water shortages were beginning to happen. Many of the priests, many of the pastors were liberal. We use the word, they'd gone woke. They'd gone woke in Isaiah's day. Nothing new what we see today. Many people were doubting. God. A lot of people had broken spiritual lives. God speaks to the prophet Isaiah, and he says, here's what I want you to go tell the people. He said, I want you to go stand in the courtyard, and I want you to say these words. And Isaiah did, and he recorded them for us in Isaiah chapter 57. They'll be in the screen. I love this passage. I come back to it over and over again. The high and lofty one who lives in eternity. That's God. The holy one. Here's what he says to people. That souls are broken, fear and lockdown is taking place. I live in the high and holy place with those whose spirits are contrite and humble. The word contrite means repentant, needy, realizing what they need, those that are contrite and humble. Look it. I will restore the crushed spirit of the humble and revive the courage. I will restore the spirit of the humble and revive the courage. I will restore and revive. I'll restore and revive. I'll restore and revive. God says I'll restore, I'll revive. I'll restore that crushed spirit. I'll revive the courage of those that have repentant hearts. What's a repentant heart? A repentant heart is simply saying, God I can't do it on my own. I'm at the end of my rope, and Lord there's things beyond me that humanly nobody can do but you. And Lord I'm sorry for thinking I can do it on my own. My trust is in you. You say to me today, but Tom, you don't know what I'm facing. You don't know what I'm going through. You don't know how long this has been going on. No, I don't, but God does. I don't, but God does. I don't have to know, because I can't solve all your problems. You know that. I can't solve all my own problems. That's why we all come and we worship and we look to God and say, God, you can solve what nobody else. You can restore and you can revive. You can do those two things, Lord, because you promised, the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. You're going to even restore my soul. When my soul gets broken, O Lord God, I'm going to trust in you to do what only you are able to do. And so this morning, praise team, come back, please. This morning, what do you need God to do for you? He made a promise, when you made the Lord your shepherd, I shall not want. One of the greatest miracle mindset verses in all the Bible. The Lord is my shepherd, therefore my miracle mindset tells me, I shall not want. He will meet my every need. Today, do you need directional needs? He'll lead you in paths of righteousness.

You have emotional needs, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I've walked into the valley of the shadow of death. My physicians told me, you were 15 minutes later getting to the hospital, you wouldn't have made it. I was 15 minutes away from death. I have walked into the valley of the shadow. And I had peace, peace that only God is able to give. Do you need, do you need, do you need spiritual help? He restores souls. So we're going to sing a great song this morning, talks about God's faithfulness. He's not failed us. He won't, he won't, he won't. We're going to be standing, as we begin to sing, I'm going to invite people to come. You can come, stand right now, stand up right now. You can come. You've never come before. Make it a first. You've come many times before. Don't be afraid to come again. You're afraid to come by yourself? Tap the person next to you. Would you walk with me? They will. Let's flood these altars and say, God, I need the good shepherd this morning. I admit I'm a sheep. Never, never failed me. Sing it out to me.

Physical healing, whether out there or down front. Just raise your hand. You need a healing touch in your body. Okay? Keep your hand up. How many are here? Lord, I really need a breakthrough in my life in the next 30 days in some area beyond the area of physical healing. I need a breakthrough. I'm just, I just seem to be bound by something right now. I need a breakthrough within the next 30 days. Lift up your hand. Okay. You that need healing. You need a breakthrough in the next 30 days. Put your hand up. Pastor Eddie, come on, pray over the people in the name of the Lord. Healing and a breakthrough. Pastor Eddie, come on. Pray over the people in the name of the Lord. Healing and a breakthrough. Jesus, we thank you that even before we tell you what we need, you already know. And so Lord, us telling you is not to inform you, but it's a physical way of saying, Lord, I trust you. And we are giving. Lord, your word says, cast our care upon you because you care for us. Amen. So Father God, in the name of Jesus, I pray for each person that has responded to any one of these appeals. Amen. Father, whether it be deliverance physically, mentally, spiritually. Spiritually, financially. God, those that just need to be closer to you, Lord God. Those that need something that they've not shared with anyone else but you, but God, you are able. Father God, we don't serve a dead God. We don't serve a God of the past, but we serve a God that is active in our lives today. And God, your word says that the Holy Spirit wants to set us free. Lord, your word says that we can ask all these things. Father God, we're more than overcomers. Amen. I thank you for that. God, we proclaim over every person that is hearing our voice today, whether it's in this sanctuary, Lord God, or whether it's via digital means, God, we're proclaiming that no weapon formed against us shall prosper. We hold onto your word today, Lord God, and we ask that by your Spirit, that dear God, you would set us free from all that entangles us, Father God, so that we can serve you more. God, I just pray that the hope that we feel this morning, we understand that we can take it with us. For Father, you said you would never leave us. You will never forsake us. So it's with that confidence that we ask these things, and we walk out of here with power and with an anointing, Lord God, that we are more than overcomers, and thank you for that. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Amen. Amen. Now, before we dismiss, do one more important thing for me, not for me, for you and the person by you. Turn to somebody nearby you and say, Amen. How can I pray for you this week? Now, when they ask you that, don't give them a doctoral dissertation, okay? Just briefly say, I need prayer in this area this week. Just turn to somebody nearby if you feel comfortable. How can I pray for you this week? And then take time to pray for them, okay? God bless everybody. God bless. God be with you. May God's anointing rest upon you.

The service opens with an invitation to worship the “God of all hope” and emphasizes the importance of surrendering to the Lord.

Transcript
