The Pain of Correction

So, a couple of questions for you today: How much do you like being corrected? How much do you like being disciplined? Come on! Have you ever found yourself saying, “I can’t wait for someone to point out my mistakes and correct me”? Not likely!

Even more abhorrent in this day and age is the notion of God’s discipline, God’s correction. Though it remains the top-selling book in the world by a country mile, the Bible is one of the least trusted documents in society today.

Fancy listening to that stuffy old religious mumbo-jumbo and accepting it as correction, as discipline. Get out of here!

Back in 2008, I received an email from a colonel in one of the rebel groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While he was attending a peace conference in Goma, he switched on the radio in his hotel room. One of my messages about the fear of God was playing at the time. This is what he wrote:

“As I was listening, I realised that with no fear of God in the hearts of people, there will be no peace at all! These 8 minutes were the turning point of my life as well as my peace effort. I’ve been on the battlefield for 13 years. I don’t know how many people have died because of my gun, but right then I decided to lay down my arms.”

Proverbs 3:11 My son, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline, and don’t be angry when he corrects you. The LORD corrects the one he loves, just as a father corrects a child he cares about.

That’s God’s Word. Fresh … for you … today.
