Barbara Leaf, former U.S. ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, discusses the role of the Middle East in the global economy and how progressive policies are linked to economic development. As a long-time U.S. diplomat, she analyzes the prospects for the Gulf region’s future beyond oil and the constructive role that the U.S. can play in the region. Ambassador Leaf also shares with Prof. Maillet her personal experience as a woman in senior diplomatic roles across the region.
