Defining the Quest (What is Righteousness?)
We often confuse righteousness with "being good" or following a set of rules. While a righteous person acts morally, the righteousness Jesus speaks of is two-fold. First, it is imputed righteousness—Christ’s perfect, clean record given to us when we trust Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Second, it is practical righteousness—the Holy Spirit working in us to produce a life that reflects God's justice, love, and purity in our daily actions. To hunger for righteousness is to crave both: the security of being right with God, and the transformation that makes us act like Christ.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I rely on my own efforts to feel "good enough," or do I rest fully in the righteousness gifted to me by Christ?
- What is one specific area of my life (my speech, my patience, my financial integrity) where I need more of God's practical righteousness to manifest today?
