Rawley Grau has translated numerous works from Slovenian, including novels by Dušan Šarotar, Mojca Kumerdej, Gabriela Babnik, Vlado Žabot, and Sebastijan Pregelj. Five of his translations were longlisted for the Dublin Literary Award, and his translations of Šarotar’s Panorama and Billiards at the Hotel Dobray were shortlisted for the Oxford-Weidenfeld Translation Prize. He has also translated Ivan Cankar’s play Depravity in St. Florian Valley, as well as poetry by Miljana Cunta, Miklavž Komelj, Janez Ramoveš, and Tomaž Šalamun, among others. In 2021, he received the Lavrin Diploma for excellence in translation from the Association of Slovenian Literary Translators. Translations from other languages include a book of poems and letters by the Russian poet Yevgeny Baratynsky, which received the AATSEEL prize for Best Scholarly Translation, and, most recently, a volume of poems by the Macedonian poet Aco Šopov, which he co-translated with Christina E. Kramer. Originally from Baltimore, Maryland, he has lived in Ljubljana for the past two decades.

He spoke about relocating to Slovenia from the States, his work in Slovene Translation and Co-Translation.
