Aging is part of the human experience, but as our bodies change, so must our approach and mindset toward caring for them.

Imagine going from being an elite athlete and coach to Olympic track and field athletes, to barely being able to move only a few years later. When you have spent your 20s identifying as strong, physical, and healthy, losing the ability to move freely can feel like a devastating loss.

That is exactly what today's guest, Coach Ashley Selman, experienced. After having a hip replacement and going into perimenopause in her early 40's, her body began to take a turn. She needed to find a solution and eventually discovered BFR, or Blood Flow Restriction training.

BFR is something both Jay and Coach Selman have in common, and discovering it was a huge "Hey, Wait" moment for them both. It's a powerful tool not only for women navigating menopause, but for anyone with an aging body.

In this episode, Ashley talks about:

  • Her path toward becoming a coach

  • Blood Flow Restriction: what it is and how it works

  • Women losing muscle mass sooner than men due to Human Growth Hormone
