The Ibizan social anthropologist, Joan Costa Bonet, has begun an ambitious project to map and classify all the roads, tracks and paths on the island. You might be surprised to hear that Ibiza currently has no comprehensive survey or map of its routes. Islanders have always relied on local knowledge, rather than anything written, to define limits of land ownership plus public and private rights of way. Joan wants to capture this information before it is lost as the older generations pass away. He believes this is a huge opportunity to create a properly-defined network for all Ibizans and lovers of rural Ibiza. It will also help create certainty and solve the increasing number of conflicts over rights of way. Anyone using country paths and tracks in Ibiza is invited to join a new group which will help Joan survey the island, and the links to this are in the notes for this podcast.
