Sarah Cannizzo, MA, VMD, Diplomate of the American College of Zoological Medicine (Dipl. ACZM), and certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA), is an associate veterinarian and Board Certified Specialist in Zoological Medicine. ™
Dr. Cannizzo has been working in zoo medicine for 11 years. She completed an internship in zoological medicine at Wildlife Safari and a residency in zoological medicine at North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Zoo. She is a member of the EEHV Advisory Group. She was the veterinary advisor for the Texas Horned Lizard SSP. She recently became a certified veterinary acupuncturist (CVA).
Dr. Cannizzo has published research about cystinuria in servals, intraocular pressure in American bullfrogs, metastatic mineralization in earless lizards, urinary protein in callimico monkeys, the effect of water temperature on the hydrolysis of absorbable sutures, and parathyroid hormone/vitamin D/ionized calcium in ferrets. In addition to these topics, she has presented about stem cells as a treatment modality in flamingo species.
