Glenn Medical Center Update

For weeks, Glenn County residents have had to travel dozens of miles to get medical care after the only local hospital, Glenn Medical Center, was forced to close. A federal decision to revoke the hospital’s critical access designation resulted in funding cuts that made operations unsustainable. Now, Representative Doug LaMalfa and Senator Adam Schiff have introduced new legislation that aims to restore funding to Glenn Medical Center and help other rural hospitals facing similar situations. CalMatters Health Reporter Ana B. Ibarra joins Insight to talk about what these bills would do, and why the road to reopen Glenn medical could be long and costly.

Dwayne and Edison's Eggery

What started as a backyard hobby for one family has hatched into so much more. We’ll meet Joseph Reedy, the founder of Dwayne and Edison’s Eggery, a small farm in Sacramento doing big things for the community. They recently launched Neighbor’s Nest, a program to provide snacks for families with food insecurity in collaboration with Alchemist CDC.

A Sacramento native is making wine on a smaller scale, but with a big heart. Adam Saake is the founder of Perch Wine Company. He joins us ahead of the annual Perchfest on Sunday, Nov. 2 at Cannon in East Sacramento - which includes wine tasting, live music featuring the LabRats, and falconry.
