How Prop 50 Could Reshape Placer County

In one week, California voters will decide whether to pass Prop 50 and temporarily bypass the state’s independent redistricting commission to draw new congressional maps in Democrats’ favor. The new maps could bring big changes to Placer County, splitting it into three new districts. Dia de los Muertos is observed from Nov. 1 to Nov. 2, a celebration centered on ofrendas (or altars) which are typically on display with offerings of a deceased loved one’s favorite food, drinks or mementos to celebrate their life. An exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum is highlighting its cultural history, fueled by the Royal Chicano Air Force (RCAF), an influential collective of artists and activists dating back to the 1970s. RCAF in Mictlán: 50th Anniversary of Dia de los Muertos is on display through April. Joining Insight is Curator Tere Romo, Artist, Indigenous Educator and Cultural Activist Stan Padilla, as well as Delta Pick Mello, Executive Director of the Sacramento History Museum. There is also a Mini Ofrenda Workshop on Sat. Nov. 1 from 11am to 2pm.
