A realistic, sobering and critical assessment of the current technology landscape of Tesla, arguing that many high-valuation concepts - especially those associated with Elon Musk's companies and the broader AI sector - are based on hype and narrative rather than delivered product reality. Tesla has lost its technological leadership in electric vehicles, robotics (Optimus), and autonomous driving, specifically its "Full Self-Driving" is still only Level 2 autonomy while competitors like Waymo have achieved Level 4 deployment. Expanding this critique how linguistic rebranding where bold claims like "autonomous" are quietly downgraded to "supervised" when reality fails to meet the promise, such as Meta's retreat from the metaverse and GM's Cruise safety issues. Tesla had rapid initial progress creating exponential expectations, the final steps toward true autonomy, usable robotics and so on, are proving exponentially harder and more expensive to achieve.
