On the first day of the murder trial of former Philadelphia police officer Mark Dial, prosecutors showed the 2023 video of Dial shooting and killing Eddie Irizarry. Dial's former partner told jurors they were following a car speeding and driving erratically in the Fairhill neighborhood, and then found it parked the wrong way on East Willard Street. The video shows Irizarry inside a locked car with the windows up. Dial is heard saying "gun" and "show me your hands." Within six seconds of getting out of his patrol car, Dial fires six shots. Dial's defense attorneys say Irizarry had a knife with a handle that looked like a gun. Prosecutors say Dial showed no regard for human life. Most of Irizarry's family members were not in court. They say the district attorney's office told them opening statements wouldn't begin until the following day.
