A few weeks ago, Eric and I attended author Jon Acuff’s “Remarkable You” event, and many of you asked if we would share our notes. 🙂

Eric and I are highlighting several of our favorite, most meaningful takeaways in today’s podcast. If you’d like to hear some of my more in-depth thoughts, ideas, and mindset shifts that resulted from attending this conference, I recorded another podcast and created a written version for all of our ARISErs inside our ARISE membership.

This conference was SO GOOD, and I am confident that many, many of these ideas will resonate with you!

Remarkable You Event Takeaways:

  • Remarkable = Actions match intentions (Eric and I noted that if our intentions are to watch TV all day–and then we do that–that doesn’t necessarily make it remarkable. But we’re assuming this applies to people who are already setting goals and seeking for a better life.)
  • Some Beats None. We really loved the emphasis on the fact that doing something, even if it is really small, will continue to move us forward. This can be difficult for those of us that are perfectionists, but this is something we both want to incorporate more into our lives.
  • Procrastination costs you your life. Jon shared some stories of people who chose not to procrastinate–making sales calls for a real estate business, for example–and he shared the monetary benefits that came from that. If they had procrastinated, they would not have had that additional income. Again, I believe the same applies to having experiences, making an impact on others, providing service to the world, etc.
  • Procrastination is the most well-funded fear in modern history.
  • Most people are working on 28 goals at a time. It is essential to focus. (And this is what we focus on in our STEP program! Keeping our Current Projects Lists and Routines Lists short, focused, and manageable.)
  • Joy is the best alarm clock. (You’ll move mountains when the mission matters.)
  • We don’t lack information. We lack FIRE.
  • “I don’t give gold time to bronze activities.”
  • Planning is a MULTIPLYING force. When we spend 1 hour to improve the remaining 167 hours in our week, the return on our investment will be incredible!
  • “What would a _________ do?” Ask yourself this question and put any word into the blank spot. What would a great writer do? What would a good friend or a helpful parent do? Allow that question to help your brain solve and give answers to that question–to help guide you in how you might use and structure your time to get those results.
  • Reviewing turns experience into education so you can run further, faster. Reviews help us make sure our results match our intentions.
  • When reviewing, you need permission to be your biggest fan.
  • You don’t “feel motivated” you “practice motivation”…act your way into a feeling/activity/result.
  • Never forget the days of humble beginnings and the blessings of adversity. (Jon shared a before and after photo of his first meet-up where only 2 people came, compared with his opportunity to speak to 8,000 people. During the first, very small meet-up, he knew that this was his “before” photo, and did not let this discourage him in his writing and speaking efforts going forward.)
