One of the first things we do when planning a project is establish an outcome vision. Sometimes this feels very “official,” but it’s essential to know what we’re actually shooting for. When I first learned about project planning from David Allen, author of Getting Things Done®, I realized how important it was to know what “done” means.

When we’re planning out our lives, we don’t necessarily know when the end will take place, but we can identify what feels like an ideal outcome.

Recently, I shared the following list with a small group of “All-In Becomers” here at LearnDoBecome, and I thought you might want to review it and then weigh in, as well. Is “what I think you want” what you actually want? Would you add anything? Edit anything?

I almost decided not to publish this episode because the ideas seemed too “pie in the sky” in some cases. But as I thought further, I realized that even though there are definitely things that will happen that are out of our control, there’s a lot we can control. And I hope that these ideas can at least spark some good conversations. Okay, here we go!

What I think you want:

First, there are the “basics” we already describe in our ARISE community:

  • Your home and mind are organized so there’s no clutter and everything basically stays in order with minimal, fun, simple routines.
  • You have great relationships with your family and friends, so you feel positively aligned with others–never lonely or at odds with the world (especially in your own home), and your life is full of kindness (for others and from others), laughter, and true companionship, where you lift each other in happy, healthy ways.
  • Your finances are so solid that you barely have to think about “money,” you can experience abundance in every part of your life (now and throughout retirement), and you can focus on what you DO with your money–which includes helping those in need and really creating a legacy of giving back.
  • You have mental and physical health…a mind that feels calm, strong, and optimistic, with healthy thinking patterns as the norm. And a physical body that you nurture with love so you rarely, if ever, get sick. You get plenty of sleep, good nutrition, exercise, breathing, and replenishment, which allows you to put your energy towards your highest level of contribution.
  • You know and trust your Higher Power. You deliberately invest quality time nurturing your spirit so you feel lifted and supported on a regular basis. Even the most challenging experiences can’t shake you because you know you have access to a power beyond your own. You can listen and take action, as appropriate, and that broader spiritual perspective impacts every other facet of your life
  • You’re clear on your purpose, and you don’t get sidetracked by comparing yourself to others. You incorporate purposeful projects, routines, and actions into your life so that you’re not just living the same day over and over again. You know that you’re making a difference in ways that are unique to you, and you feel excited about your opportunities to truly grow and influence others for good.

Obviously I love those 6 categories, as they form the foundation of what we do in ARISE and at LearnDoBecome, but I want to go a little deeper:

  • You want to be connected to others who have similar goals. Sometimes it seems the world gets distracted for the sake of the ego. Visible wealth, a jealous-worthy body, hyper-productivity, and lots of attention are often heralded as success, but that’s not what matters most to you.
  • You want to know you’re not alone in seeking a balanced life. Quality of life is essential. You want to move through your days joyfully–not “working super hard to one day feel successful.”
  • You want to surround yourself with people who truly care about your well-being–not personalities who constantly need to feel superior to you or who are “just trying to sell you something.”
  • You want to build common ground when others might choose to pick sides. You want to stand for goodness and have fruitful conversations without assuming you are “always right.”
  • You’re not looking to “overshare,” but you want to be with people who recognize that EVERYONE has hard stuff going on and who are willing to engage in solution-finding conversations.
  • You want ideas and opportunities that feel exciting to you. You’re not afraid to work hard or to go outside your comfort zone. In fact, you crave that. But you want to do it in a way that makes sense with your whole life.
  • You want a social circle who can be your “sanity checkpoint.” You know you’re not perfect and that you have a lot to learn, but sometimes there are so many things coming at you simultaneously that you don’t know how to wisely prioritize and you start to feel a little crazy.
  • You want to be among people who truly understand you–who have compassion when you don’t “do it all” because they recognize that you’re taking care of a lot of people and things, and when you “fall short,” there are some really good reasons. In fact, you didn’t fall short at all. You just made decisions based on your values and needs.
  • You don’t want to miss the moments. In this world that focuses so often on doing, you want to be present with the people you love and be the kind of person who emanates love, respect, and a willingness to be real.

I could probably go on and on, but I think that’s a good starting point. If you could please add in any other thoughts that came to mind as you were reading or listening, I would appreciate it.

Thank you!!!

Community Highlights

This first message comes from Teresa:

“I’m so excited about building my Command Central. In clearing my space I found $125 in an envelope a gift from a few years ago!! I have started to declutter at work as well. The microburst is definitely a game changer. I’ve been listening and watching videos so I’ve started using my calendar more but can’t wait to get where it comes natural. I even listen to videos and podcast on my drive to and from work. I’m hooked and ALL IN!!! I was so excited to hear about the emails to zero. I went to work and got my emails to zero w/o the training…I just had your voice in my head. My personal email…I will definitely need the training. I could go on and on about how the system has helped me. I’m looking forward to all that it has to offer. Thank you soooooo much!!”

The next message comes from Paula:

“Recently re-engaged with Step. Had my command central setup, finished a major project, and then got sick for over a week. Guess what, for the first time ever my house didn’t get messy when I was sick. I processed my daily mail and bills and reset the rooms when I left them. I had plenty of time to rest and didn’t worry about the house. #STEPwin”

Daisy shared these great “before and after” photos and wrote:

“I am not done but my daughter is excited to start her projects and paints! And play with her toys!!!! I still need to sort the bins but I’ll send the before and after when that part is done. So far, thanks team!!!!”

And last but not least, Karen wrote the following post in our Facebook group:

“LIGHTBULB MOMENT: Realizing my overwhelming to-do lists in the past was actually a mindsweep without a plan.”
