Matthew 13:1-9 and 18-23 is the text for this sermon entitled, "Parable of the Sower/Soils."
This is in one of the teaching sections of Matthew’s gospel. Jesus shares the parable to illustrate how people receive God's word. The setting has Jesus teaching by the sea, attracting a large crowd. This parable is within chapter 13’s collection of parables to demonstrate what the kingdom of heaven is like. What are some of the major characteristics of the kingdom of heaven? Jesus needed to share the fundamental dynamics of his kingdom as opposed to earthly kingdoms.
