Azerbaijan has extradited a Russian soldier accused of desertion at the request of Russia’s Prosecutor General’s Office, the Azerbaijani authorities reported on Wednesday.

Sotim Savlatov was detained in Azerbaijan in January 2025. The 28-year-old is listed in the Russian Interior Ministry’s wanted persons database, which gives his place of birth as Tajikistan. According to Mediazona, Savlatov is a Russian citizen who had been living in the Tver region and was added to the wanted list no later than late October 2023. The details of his case remain unclear.

Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General’s Office said the extradition was carried out in accordance with a 2002 convention. Savlatov was transferred to Russian custody under escort by a special convoy from the Federal Penitentiary Service.
