One of the last steps in divorce negotiations is dividing the financial assets. What often happens during this tug-of-war is that one of the spouses (often the wife) just wants the drama to end. So instead of standing strong in negotiating for their financial future, they may be more inclined to give up and give in.

There is no denying that divorce can be very divisive and emotional, but I cannot underestimate the importance of the financial settlement. It will dictate your financial future.

Lori Lustberg is Certified Divorce Financial Analyst, mediator and attorney. I call her a financial mediator because she helps people facing divorce understand the financial and tax implications of different settlement scenarios.

Lori can be reached at 802-233-9848 or [email protected]. Her website is www.lorilustberg.com
