Scotland's whisky map is changing. For decades, single malt meant the old guard, names everyone knew. But across the country, new casks are being filled and new whiskies finding their style.Since 2014, at least 20 new malt distilleries have opened across Scotland, bringing the total to more than 150. Some are brand new ventures from independent bottlers or entrepreneurs with a different vision. Others are revivals of historic names.More recently though, the industry has run into headwinds. Exports are growing in volume, but slipping in value. Tariffs have dented sales and production costs keep climbing. Yet new distilleries are reportedly still opening this year, proof that the building boom hasn't slowed.
