Marty Shukert, a graduate of Omaha’s Central High School, attended Yale University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in city planning. He then went on to earn his master’s degree in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. During college, he was a summer intern in the Omaha Planning Department. After working briefly for architectural firms in Austin, Texas, Marty returned to Omaha where he joined the City of Omaha Planning Department. For the next 13 years, he worked to support his hometown's dynamic growth, including the design and redevelopment plans for many of our neighborhoods. Under his leadership, the City developed the ConAgra campus, Heartland of America Park, the new Riverfront area, several North Omaha housing initiatives and Omaha's recreational trails system. After working for the City of Omaha, Shukert joined RDG as a planning consultant and continued his work in several significant projects throughout the Midwest region. Throughout Marty’s tenured career he has consistently produced plans distinguished by a unique combination of creative analysis, urban design excellence and feasibility. He has developed long-range and short-term projects involving transportation and traffic systems as well as recreation, parks and trails. He has also supported housing, neighborhood, and ordinance development that helps helps to shape both urban, suburban development and redevelopment. His pioneering work as Omaha's planning director continues to positively shape our community, while his innovative plans have improved numerous communities in Nebraska, Iowa, and other midwestern states. He is a principal at RDG and Fellow of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
