Surf's up, beach lovers, but not in the way you might hope! This is your high-risk beach alert for the New York coastal regions.
Mother Nature is serving up a seriously cranky ocean today. We're looking at a high rip current risk that's no joke - basically, the water is saying Stay Out! Surf heights are hovering around 3 to 4 feet with east winds cranking between 15 to 20 miles per hour.
Cloudy skies are painting the horizon, with a chance of rain adding to the dramatic coastal scene. Water temperatures are lingering in the upper 60s - chilly enough to make you think twice about diving in. The UV index is low, so if you were hoping for a tan, today is definitely not your day.
From Coney Island to Rockaway Beach, Atlantic Beach to Fire Island, the message is crystal clear: these waters are not playing nice. Rip currents are likely and life-threatening, which means your beach day should involve watching the waves, not swimming in them.
Pro tip from your local lifeguards: If you absolutely must enter the water, always have a flotation device, stay near a lifeguard, and remember - if caught in a rip current, don't fight it. Relax, float, and signal for help.
The good news? Sunset is coming at 6:36 PM, so grab a hot drink, enjoy the moody ocean views, and live to swim another day. Stay safe out there, beach warriors!
