Barry first found music when he borrowed his sister's record collection when he was about eight and was hooked. When Caroline started it was a new beginning, and he listened to all the stations, but Caroline was his favourite by far. Later he became a singer in a band, then started doing discos when he was 18. In the first part of an extensive career-spanning interview with Pete Paphides, Lightning Seeds' Ian Broudie talks about his years as a key player in the Liverpool post-punk scene, first as a member of Big In Japan (alongside Holly Johnson, Bill Drummond & Budgie) and Care (with Paul Simpson) – and then as producer to the likes of Echo & The Bunnymen and The Pale Fountains. In Part 2, Ian goes on to talk about his "pop star" years with the Lightning Seeds and his beautiful 2004 solo album Tales Told – the joint first release on the new Needle Mythology label, out on May 31, 2019.
