We continue to interrupt our regular service with discussion of Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene.
This episode we begin book 3 of the epic and Peter continues his Latin tutorials. We discuss the meaning of Chastity in the Elizabethan era and Spenser's own interpretation of it. We consider Spenser's avant-garde adoption of a kind of Bildungsroman mode through his representation of the interior psychology of his characters—a far cry from the allegory of book one!
