On April 15th in Los Angeles, at half past two o'clock in the afternoon, a young man working as a teller in the Citizens National Bank, looks up at the clock, then notices the figure of a woman approaching his window. He says "Good afternoon". She says "Good afternoon, I wonder if you would do me a favor and read this telegram". He says "Telegram? Sure I'd be glad to". The teller looks at the letter she gave him, and says "Oh, but this isn't a telegram". She says "Read what it says". The teller starts to read it out loud. He says "Keep still and...." She says "Read it to yourself. I know what it says". After reading it, the teller says "Oh, but there isn't five thousand dollars here". She says "If you know what's good for you, shove those bills into this bag, and keep it quiet". He says "Alright, I will. Here, this is all I've got". He gets all the money out of his cash drawer, and gives it to her. She says "Fine. Now, you read in that note about being covered by three guns. If you make a crack to anyone about this for twenty minutes after I walk out of here, it will be the last thing you will ever do". He says "I understand". Uncertain what to do, the young teller stands in his cage for five long minutes. Then, he takes off to the chief teller's office where he tells his story. The chief teller says "Do you expect me to believe that?" The young teller says "Expect you to believe it? Of course, it's what happened". Chief Teller says "A woman walked in and asked you for all the money. You just handed it over, and then stood there for five minutes before telling anybody?" Young teller says "She told me I'd be killed if I moved for twenty minutes. I didn't want that to happen". Chief teller says "Oh no, of course not. And you didn't want anybody to find out about it until your confederate had plenty time to get away, didn't you?"
