Owen Leighton had arrived in Paris at 10 o'clock that morning, but did not leave his hotel room until well after 4:00 PM. He knew his brother Gerald's habits only too well. He would probably be sleeping until noon, but by 4 o'clock he would be at Patrick's Cafe on the Rue de Montparnasse. Upon arriving at Patrick's, Owen choose a table well to the side, but still garnered attention with his long beard, crutches, and heavily bandaged foot. Soon, Gerald walks over and says "Well, what do you know Owen, how have you been? What's wrong with your foot?" Owen says "Hello Gerald, I'm glad you recognized me with the beard and the bandages. I haven't seen my kid brother in over a year. Do a favor for me, finish this drink for me, I really should not be drinking with the gout". Gerald says "How is Harriet, still the same?" Owen says "No, she's more of the same. She's richer than ever, fatter than ever, and meaner than ever". Gerald says "She couldn't be too mean, she let you grow that beard". Owen says "Well, I had my reasons for growing it Gerald. It was all part of my plan". Gerald asks "What plan?" Owen replies "Well, to kill my mean, fat wife, of course".
