Lieutenant Walt Levinson calls Richard at his office. He says "Rick, I got a big headache. I think maybe you can help me with it". Richard says "Trouble?" Walt says "All over the place. You don't have to, but I'd like to, well, sort of kick it around with you". Richard says "Sure, I'll be right down". Walt says "Oh, thanks, Rick". Richard closes up his office. Twenty minutes later, he was walking into the squad room of the 5th Precinct Police Station. Richard says "Hello, Walt". He says "Hello, Rick. Sit down. Well, Leon Jacoby is back in town" Richard says "What?" Walt says "Yes". Richard says "Oh, but we got an indictment on him. We got him deported six years ago". Walt says "Look, Rick, there's no mistake. One of our stoolies brought us word". Richard says "But that's crazy. Jacoby knows the Feds will pick him up in a second. How'd he get back in?" Walt says "Who knows? Florida, maybe. Last we heard, he disappeared in Italy. And about six months later, we got a report that he was seen in Cuba". Richard says "Oh, are you just going to take the stoolie's word for it? What else have you got?" Walt says "I got three bodies to date and they're all very dead". Richard says "Jacoby?" Walt says "It's got to be. The first two were the guys that turned state's evidence and helped to put Jacoby away. You remember them, Ross and Kreisel. Jacoby swore to get them someday". Richard asks "Who's the third?" Walt says "The stoolie who gave us the tip. He walked out of the station and somebody with a Thompson machine gun got him on our front steps". Richard says "Right in front of the station?" Walt says "Yeah, it'll be in the evening papers. The commissioner is very unhappy. Oh, here's something else that makes us sure it's Jacoby. In this town, there are at least five of Jacoby's old mob. The minute this thing broke, we started to check. They've all disappeared". Richard says "You think they're organizing again?" Walt says Rick, I don't know what to think. That's why I wanted you to come down. You're one of the guys who worked on the Jacoby case".
