As Danny Braden and his wife are in their small apartment on the south side of Chicago, an old buddy from Los Angeles, Jack Buckell, stops by to offer Danny a proposition. For one hundred grand, Danny has to sign an agreement that says he will give half of his income to Jack for the next ten years. After he signs, Jack mentions Gloria Mason, Danny's first wife that was supposed to have died in a fire six years ago. She did not die, she is alive. She started the fire herself, to get away from you, Danny. She changed her name to Glenda, and is married to Phil Stacy, the casino owner.
