Hilda Bradley and her husband, Neil Bradley, have been having difficulties in their marriage. Their relationship is now unstable, and has gotten to the point of Neil packing and leaving the home. In her anger, Hilda writes a scathing letter to her father, Judge James T. Tomlins, in Washington, DC. After completing it, she says to herself "That, my fine prancing husband, will fix you". Hilda then calls for her butler, Brooks. He says "Yes, Mrs. Bradley". She says "I want you to mail this. It is airmail, special delivery, and if you hurry you can catch the one o'clock pick up from the mailbox at the corner. It's to Judge Tomlins in Washington, and it's very important. It concerns Mr. Bradley. So, run along. Brooks says "Yes, Mrs. Bradley, I'll hurry. Oh, would you like some ice cream for lunch?" She says "No, I don't care, just hurry with that letter". After Brooks leaves, Hilda calls the post office to determine when the letter will arrive to it's destination. The operator says "I can't guarantee it, but it should arrive there by nine o'clock this evening". Hilda says "Thank you", and hangs up the phone. A few seconds later, the telephone rings. She says "Hello?". Neil says "Hilda, is it still convenient for me to drop in tonight?" Hilda says "I was expecting you. Brooks says the rest of your things are packed. They'll be ready". Neil says "I'd like to see you". After their long talk on the phone, Hilda suddenly has a change of heart. After talking with Neil, she says to herself "Why is it that one moment I love him so much, and the next moment I want to kill him?". She, then remembers the letter. She calls out "Oh Brooks, never mind that letter, Oh, Brooks..." A short while later, Brooks and Hilda Bradley are sitting in her car next to the corner mailbox, hoping to intercept the letter before the postman collects it. She says "This is alright, Brooks, there will be no trouble tomorrow. What time is it?" Brooks says "It's 25 minutes past one o'clock". Hilda says "On the mailbox, it says the pickup time is one o'clock. Could we have possibly missed the mailman?" Brooks says "We were here at 12:45".
