Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has formally requested a pardon from President Isaac Herzog, soon after President Trump voiced his enthusiasm for the idea.

Meanwhile, Israel is deeply divided over the scale of a war that is now reckoned to have killed 70,000 Palestinians - just as America (and increasingly, the MAGA base ) remains divided over US support for Israel.
