Friends, as Christians we believe that we are saved by grace freely given to us as a gift from God. God cannot force this on us because He has given us free will, our ability to choose. We have a choice here to make. If we want to enjoy the benefits of His grace we have to cooperate or choose to accept it. And how do we do that? Do what St John The Baptis tells us in the gospel this Sunday- play our part by repenting, confessing our sins and bearing good fruit. This is how we “Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight.”- Warning- The consequences of doing the opposite are dire. Being "cut down and thrown into the unquenchable fire"
Brothers and sisters, on this 2nd Sunday of Advent, we need to prepare for Christ’s coming by allowing Him to be reborn daily in our lives: by repenting of our sins and renewing our lives through prayer, penance, and the sharing of our blessings with others. We humbly admit with Angelus Silesius that: “Christ could be born a thousand times in Bethlehem – but all in vain until He is born in me.”
